A Hungarian Movie That I Really Love By: Sophie_Benshitta_Maven
Gloomy Sunday
As mentioned in a previous posting, movies that you have an unusual appreciation with are a great indication of some kind of concealed assumption that has an impact on the way you live.
The past about 12 months I've been asking and getting direction. The guidance happen through motion pictures, publications, generally.
I subscribe to Netflix. I don't know what is fashionable, what's hip, and tha tis helpful. Ego and the collective ego are not mptovatomg my activities.
This is the way this motion picture "Gloomy Sunday" appeared on my monitor. Awful title, if you ask me! And it's a Hungarian made film, speaking in German, with English subtitles. It was a Gloomy Sunday, and I decided to watch it.
I had prejudice on the top of bias, but the Gloomy Sunday was there, and it was clear that it was there for me.
The Gloomy Sunday plays in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
4 players, a Jewish restaurant owner, Andras, his girl friend and hostess of the restaurant, Ilona, the restaurant's pianist, and a German guest.
The film begins today, with the arrival of a birthday celebration from Germany. The birthday boy, a German, was in the past a regular at this restaurant, so they prepare him his favorite dish.
The popular dish arrives, his dish is adorned using a big 80; it's his 80th birthday.
He starts his dish, regularly glancing at the photograph of Ilona on the piano. After a few bites he all of a sudden grabs his chest, and he drops from the chair and dies on the scene.
The rest of the Gloomy Sunday movie recounts the tale what transpired 50-60 years earlier.
The 3 Hungarians had a sort of 3-some, Ilona is extremely beautiful, and both the owner and the piano player are her partners. The German guest also falls under her spell, and when she says no, he heads to the Danube to kill himself.
Andras drags him out of the Danube, and thus rescues him.
5 years later the German guy returns, now he is a military officer in Hitler's army, and the man still loves the restaurant, however the times have changed.
He's in control of the Jewish cattle carts going to the concentration camps, but guarantees the restaurant owner that he's protected, given that he had rescued him.
The piano player writes a song to Ilona, that becomes famous throughout the world as the suicide song. The song is called "Gloomy Sunday" and it is gloomy, it sings about infidelity, and lonesomeness, and death. He purchases a poison to destroy himself, but Andras takes it from him. He still finds a way to kill himself.
